Foundations in Early Care and Education Child Development Associate (CDA) Training
Successful completion of this class will meet the formal training requirements for the CDA Direct Assessment. Course objectives include:
To become familiar with CDA Competency Goals and Functional Areas and CDA Candidacy Process
To assess individual competency in each Functional Area
To gain knowledge in each Functional Area
To enhance competencies in working with young children
To apply knowledge gained in each functional area in the classroom (Theory to Practice)
Required Texts: Working With Young Children by Judy Herr; Working With Children Student Activity Guide and Observation Book; The Child Development Associate Assessment System and Competency Standards
Course Requirements:
Read all chapters as assigned
Complete all homework assignments
Attend all classes
Participate in classroom discussions, small group activities and group presentations
Note: If you miss a class, see instructor for make-up schedule. No more than 1 class can be missed.
You must have 120 hours of formal training in order to qualify for the Direct Assessment for CDA. YOU DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE A CDA CREDENTIAL AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE CLASS. The CDA Credential is awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition, who will conduct your interview and assessment. You can contact the Council at 1-800-424-4310.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER:
This course completes part of the 120 hours needed to meet the 120 hours of formal training for a CDA. All classes must be attended in order to get full credit. If a class must be missed, see the instructor for alternatives. In the event that class is cancelled, you will be called and notified and a make-up class will be arranged.
Funding support for State Approved CDA Coursework
Bright from the Start will pay $276.25 directly to the Council for Professional Recognition on behalf of recipient to pay for a portion of the assessment fee and will reimburse recipient $48.75 when the CDA credential is earned.
*** Bright from the Start has submitted a plan to use ARRA (Stimulus) funds to provide $1200 to attain the CDA, TCC or Technical College Diploma. These monies would be paid to the eligible individual once the credential is attained.

40 Hr Director's Training - Three Saturdays per Month from 8:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
Do you need to take the 40-Hour DIRECTOR TRAINING?
Bright from the Start requires directors of newly-opening licensed childcare centers to take a 40-hour Director Training class. Pre-existing directors of licensed childcare centers are not affected by this new requirement - only newly-opening centers.
